Liverpool legend John Barnes gave his opinion regarding Dejan Lovren's future. Barnes said that the Reds should allow the defender to move clubs this summer.
Lovren himself has served at Anfield for five years. He was brought in from Southampton in 2014, where he had 170 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.
But last year, Lovren's position in Liverpool's first team began to be evicted. He lost the competition with Virgil van Dijk and also Joel Matip who was always believed to be the combination of the Reds central defender last season.
But this summer, the news circulated that Lovren will move to Italy. The central defender was seduced by AC Milan to move to the San Siro this summer.
Barnes believes that Liverpool should devote Lovren's departure this summer. "I think they [Liverpool] have to let him go," Barnes told The Sport Review.
"With the return of Joe Gomez, the chances of playing will be less. But if Lovren wants to stay and accept the fact that he is not the top choice, then he can survive there."
"I myself prefer if he stays at Liverpool. When other players get injured, he can replace that position and he usually plays well too."
Will leave
But Barnes believes that Lovren would want to play regularly at the age of 29 years. For this reason, Liverpool should be willing to leave.
"For players at his age, I feel he always wants to play regularly in the first team. So if he decides to leave, then I will respect that decision."
"I believe moving from Liverpool is good for him because he left his comfort zone. I also believe this is the right time for him to move if he really decides to leave." he said.
