James Rodriguez is now the target of Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti and the club plans to contact his agent to discuss the transfer process. This was revealed by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The future of the Colombian star is uncertain. After undergoing a loan period of two years at Bayern Munich, the German club will not seem to sweeten the player.
As a result, James finally had to return to Real Madrid. However, he also seems to have no place at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus are all reportedly interested in recruiting James. However, Napoli will be the first team to launch an offer to recruit the player.
Ancelotti has revealed that he is interested in bringing the 27-year-old player to Serie A. De Lurentiis is currently trying to realize Ancelotti's desire.
"We always say that we need two defenders and one striker," De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss.
"James Rodriguez matches the image Carlo Ancelotti wants.
"I don't know how much he can 100 percent answer our needs, but we certainly cannot doubt his abilities. At some point someone must empower his coach.
"If he [Ancelotti] wants him for Naples, it's because he knows how useful he is [James] later, even though it will be very expensive. I said, 'let's continue'."
Contact Agent James
James, who was on international duty at the Copa America, had previously said that he was unsure of his future. However, De Laurentiis said he would contact the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, to open negotiations.
PSV winger Hirving Lozano is being considered as an alternative if James's transfer fails. However, De Laurentiis explained that the club would not be able to buy both.
"If I don't reach an agreement with Jorge Mendes, I will talk to Mino Raiola about Hirving Lozano. We cannot take both," De Laurentiis added.
"We already have a series of players that we cannot ignore. We have to sell first and then we can buy.
"Mendes is probably the best agent in the world right now. He is also a friend. I think James will be very expensive, but if we have to make sacrifices, we will do it. For one player, you can do it."
