Manchester United are said to have been willing to release Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan on condition that they can get Milan Skriniar as part of the deal. Reportedly, the Red Devils want to take advantage of Inter's interest in resolving their defense problems.
Once pat two flies, MU tried to be smart in the transfer market. First premise: MU don't like Lukaku and need a center back. Second premise: Inter target Lukau and have a qualified central defender. As a result, MU can take advantage of Inter's interest to solve their two problems at once.
Lukaku began to get frustrated since MU was handled by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. For some reason, Solskjaer doesn't really like strikers with playing styles like Lukaku. He often plays Marcus Rashford on the cutting edge of the Red Devils attack line.
Not only that, Lukaku poured gasoline on this hot rumor after confessing that he had long wanted to play in Serie A. He also called Antonio Conte - the current Inter boss - as one of the best coaches in the world.
Now, Italian media, Corriere dello Sport claims that MU and Inter have discussed the negotiations on the transfer of Lukaku. Reportedly, Inter have tried to offer Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic as part of this transfer.
So, MU refused. They don't need both players, or rather Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn't like both. Instead, MU asked Inter to release Skriniar.
Inter position
Inter want Lukaku, but that doesn't mean they are willing to let go of Skriniar. Still according to the report, Inter could not release the 24-year defender, especially after he signed a new contract.
MU have been trying to find the best center back in the last few transfer markets and have always failed. They hope Skriniar can solve the problem, given the proven quality with the Nerazzurri.
Previously, about the mission of finding a central defender, United were called to target Kalidou Koulibaly and Matthijs de Ligt, but the two top players were far beyond the reach of the Red Devils.
Manchester United then turned their interest to Leicester City defender Harry Maguire and West Ham defender Issa Diop. Solskjaer can choose one and hopes the Lukaku-Skriniar barter can be completed.
